Continuing Education Units (CEUs)
The Certification Board of Governors requires that all members maintain the highest levels of professional engagement and development in their industry. Therefore, keeping your certification in good standing will require an annual report to the International Trade Certification office that demonstrates you have completed 10 continuing education requirements for that calendar year. This requirement is in effect every 12 months for the life of the certification to remain in good standing.
You must complete 10 units (CEUs) annually or the certification will expire and become invalid.
General Guidelines for Continuing Education / CEU’s Awarded
Note: All CEUs are based on contact hours for global trade relevant training.
A total of 30 contact training hours = 10 CEUs
Specific Examples:
A single 60 minute webinar is equivalent to one-third (1/3) of a CEU.
Attend a 3 hour online webinar for trade compliance (3 Contact Training Hours) === 1 CEU
A 3 hour in-person training event (full event time is spent on training) === 1 CEU
Attend a 1 day in-person training event (a full 6 hours is spent on training) === 2 CEUs
Specific Example: Enroll and pass 6 Week (3 Credit Hour) CEU Eligible course from Dunlap-Stone University = 10 CEUs
Where to Start for CEU Providers
The following providers of online webinars or in-person training seminars are routinely submitted for CEUs, and are a great place to start looking for professional development opportunities that will extend your certified status. Please contact the ITC via email if you are unsure as to whether or not an event will qualify for CEUs. Note: Not all CEUs are equivalent.
Bureau of Industry & Security (BIS) Annual Update Conference
Census Bureau - Automated Export System (AES) (Transition to ACE)
Department of Commerce (DOC) – International Trade Administration
Department of Homeland Security, Customs & Border Protection (CBP)
Dunlap-Stone University - Master Approved Provider
