History
When it
began in 1995, the Certification Board of Governors (CBG) was
originally called the IIEI Certification Board. In 2004, to
give it the independence it needed to achieve its expanded mission, it
was incorporated as a
non-profit 501(c)(3) Arizona corporation as a not-for-profit outreach
program by Dunlap-Stone University's International Import-Export Institute
and its name was changed to the Certification Board of
Governors. Inc. In 2007, it changed its incorporation
to the state of Delaware. Based on prompting of industry
experts, members of academia, corporate leaders and government
agency representatives' worldwide, it was
organized as an open forum for discussion on standards for
international trade certification as input for the
International Import-Export Institute's international
trade certification program. To ensure a seamless adoption of
these
standards worldwide, they are posted on this web site free of charge.
The
International Export Institute
(IIEI), part of nationally accredited Dunlap-Stone University, provides all administrative
and financial support to
the CBG. The IIEI uses the recommendations of standards from
the CBG as the basis for IIEI's International Trade
Certification Program.
From its
very beginning, the Certification Board of Governors has represented
industry. Through the volunteers serving on the various CBG
Committees, government, academic and industry views from around
the world have provided the foundation from which the various
industry standards have evolved. It is by having this
broad base of support from the volunteers of the CBG that the
International Import-Export Institute
has established a valuable certification standard program that continues
to meet the needs of the global marketplace.
Because
of increased industry demands, beginning in 2003, the Certification
Board of Governors' Board of Directors expanded standing
committees from one to two, including the Ethics & Professional
Standards Committee and Compliance & Enforcement Committee.
In 2005, the CBG expanded to include an Advisory Council.
All of
the IIEI's industry certification standards that have
evolved form the CBG's volunteers' recommendatins are published on
this web site and are available free of charge
to all governments, colleges, universities and training organizations
throughout the world. Thanks to this effort, this single global
standard for international trade professionals is recognized
in over 140 countries around the world.
